Miconazole Nitrate & Fluocinolone Acitonide

This combination is used to treat inflammatory symptoms such as itching , redness and infections caused by yeast which is a fungi.
Miconazole nitrate: Miconazole nitrate is an imidazole antifungal agent and It is a wide antifungal spectrum and has some antibacterial activity. It is used to treat athlete's foot or in ring worm infections.
Fluocinolone acitonide: It is a cortecosteriods used to treat itching, redness, dryness, scaling, inflammation, and discomfort in various inflammatory skin conditions. It mainly treats the inflammation of the skin and mucosa .

Indications

In Skin allergic reactions such as psoriasis, Dermatitis and Rash, Swelling, Itching and redness of scalp, Seborrheic dermatitis, and Outer ear eczema ,Otitis externa.

Pharmacology

Fluocinolone- it is a glucocorticoid receptor agonist. It works by binding to cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptors and translocates to the nucleus and where it initiates the transcription and translation of glucocorticoid-responsive genes such as lipocortins. Lipocortins inhibit phospholipase A2, thereby blocking the release of arachidonic acid from phospholipid membrane and preventing the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are the mediators of inflammation. Miconazole- Miconazole exerts fungicidal or fungistatic action . It inhibits the conversion of Lanosterol to 14 demethyl Lanosterol by inhibiting the enzyme 14 alpha demethylase and impair ergosterol synthesis

Contraindications

The formulation is contraindicated in pregnancy it is also contraindicated in known hypersensitivity reactions.

Side Effects

Hypersensitivity (including urticaria), angioneurotic oedema, Rash, eczema, erythema, dermatitis (including dermatitis contact), pruritus, Photosensitivity reaction.

Precautions & Warnings

Apply gel as necessary to the affected area. Allow three to five minutes for the anaesthetic to take affect.
